Say Aloha to This Nut

Macadamia nut oil is the new hot cooking oil

When it comes to cooking oils, there’s a major concern that’s often overlooked: heating an oil can cause it to break down, emitting toxic fumes and producing free radicals, destroying its antioxidant and health properties. Conventional high-heat cooking oils like vegetable and canola oils are too high in omega-6 fats, but healthier oils like olive have lower heat tolerances. Coconut oil is a great option, but there’s an underutilized other oil too: macadamia oil.

Boost your happiness with a healthy, yummy alternative. With a rich, buttery flavor and a host of health benefits, it’s worth giving the aloha nut a shot. The omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is about 1:1, and macadamia oil’s flash point is between 410 and 450 degress farenheit, making it great for sauteeing, pan-frying, and baking.

Macadamias also have extremely high levels of monounsaturated fatty acids, aka MUFAs—the healthy buzzwords giving olives, avocadoes, and the Mediterranean diet such a great name.

MUFAs:

  • Protect the heart

  • Reduce belly fat

  • Boost insulin sensitivity

  • Guard against cancer

Combine that with high levels of vitamins E and D, and you’ve got yourself a winning cooking oil. Look for macadamia nut oil bottled in dark glass containers.
